Overview

Waki Malaysian Dim Sum, nestled in the quiet enclave of Taman Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, offers a refreshing take on halal-certified dim sum. This modest restaurant, clearly focused on substance over style, delivers authentic Malaysian-Chinese flavors without unnecessary flair, catering especially to those who seek traditional taste with halal assurance.

The star of the menu is undoubtedly the BBQ Chicken Bun, a comforting balance of tender chicken enveloped in soft, fluffy dough. Alongside it, the Handmade Radish Cake stands out for its delicate texture—crispy outside yet surprisingly soft inside, accompanied by just-right levels of seasoning. The Har Gao and Loh Mai Gai maintain that quintessential dim sum appeal, with plump, juicy fillings encased in silky skins that speak to the care given in preparation.

For those craving a bit more complexity, the Penang Fried Koew Teow and Stir-Fried Radish Cake showcase the vibrant layers of Malaysian street food culture. These dishes marry wok hei (the breath of the wok) with fresh ingredients, producing plates rich in aroma and flavor without overwhelming heaviness.

Waki’s space is unpretentious—clean and peaceful with ample parking, making it an inviting spot for families and groups alike. Customer experiences highlight attentive service despite the limited staff, with food served promptly to maintain its heat and freshness. The restaurant’s calm atmosphere, especially during early evenings or quieter nights, lends itself well to relaxed dining and casual conversations.

The target audience here includes halal diners who appreciate genuine Chinese-Malaysian dim sum, as well as food lovers interested in exploring authentic flavors without compromising dietary restrictions. Given its reasonable pricing and quality, Waki serves as an excellent destination for those seeking value alongside taste.

While some dishes like the salted egg yolk custard bao may benefit from refinement, the overall culinary craft shines through in items like the spring prawn roll chee cheong fun and spicy sauce dumplings—both celebrated for their balanced textures and fragrant, well-layered sauces. The fried selections, such as the wu gok (taro croquette), impress with finely judged crispiness and savory fillings.

Waki Malaysian Dim Sum stands as a hidden gem in the Subang Jaya food scene, offering a genuine experience grounded in traditional halal Chinese cuisine. Its focus on maintaining quality, coupled with a welcoming environment, ensures that both regulars and newcomers leave with a satisfied palate and a desire to return.

As I drove to the restaurant, trying my luck based on online research, the area it’s located in - Regalia Business Center - had this dodgy ambience. Almost decided to cancel until I saw Chinese guests dining in this Halal-certified restaurant. Promising sign (not meant to be racist, but it’s a theory proven numerous times haha!) First impression - It certainly isn’t pretentious and no fancy flair (which I’m alright with). The waitresses/waiters were few but all were very efficient and warm. The menu focuses on decent varieties of dimsum and a few ala carte hot menu such as fried rice and noodle soup. Our food arrived pretty fast, we waited barely 10mins for our first order to arrive. The spring prawn roll chee cheong fun had a good play on layers of different textures - the soft cheong fun (which was tad bit thick) and crispy deep fried prawn with just enough saltiness from thin soy-based sauce and shrimp paste The spicy sauce dumpling was my personal favourite. If you love tom yum, you’d love this. Not-too-thick-smooth dumpling skin enwrapping plump prawn-based filling basked with fragrant sauce made of subtly spicy chilli sauce with good amount of blended (I think) lemongrass Another favourite would be their wu gok (taro croquette). The diced chicken meat filling was not sickeningly sweet and the thickness of taro shell was just nice. Not oily although it’s a deep fried dumpling We also had fried prawn beancurd roll which was surprisingly good! I’m not too much of a fan of deep fried beancurd sheet because it’s often soggy or too chewy and it’d leave my palate coated with oil that whatever food that I taste after that would be blunted; but not here. It so thin and crispy so the prawn filling shined through I have had many fried radish cake dishes but here, I love the radish cake per se the most. Although the smoky flavour was not as apparent as I wish it’d be, the radish cake was surprisingly soft with a crispy exterior. And it was served with tons of bean sprouts (taugeh) which were just cooked (no one loves soggy taugeh) Why isn't this restaurant famous already, seriously? I also had kung fu noodles. Chinese hawker dishes and MSG are almost inseparable but the flavour of chicken stock per se was obvious. The portion would be good for two people if they also have dim sums together with it. Loh mah kai was quite decent although it’d be nice if the mushroom flavour is tad bit stronger I wouldn’t recommend the salted egg yolk dimsum because the yolk topping did nothing much to the dimsum. And their salted egg yolk custard bao was overcooked I think so the custard content emitted too much oil. Plus the bao dough was too thick it became dry and mouthful. I had this issue too the last time I tried to make bao dough for this recipe. Maybe with more skill it can be improved. Four of us dined together and it only costed us approximately RM90! At other more famous dimsum franchises, it’d easily cost almost double! So price wise, it's extremely reasonable Parking space is ample because the area is not congested at all. They accept e-wallet, card, and cash for payment I just hope they can extend their operating hour All in all I certainly will return for more, inshaaAllah!

Wanted to try the Lo Mai Gai my entire life and finally came across this shop in USJ 1. Tried few other dishes and very satisfied overall. Prices very reasonable too. Total bill came to RM45++ This shop is halal certified so it is a good option for me when craving for chinese food. Whether taste is same like original chinese ones, it's for our chinese friends to verify But I will definitely go back for more.

1st time here to try out Halal Dim Sum which provides take away too for the frozen ones. Must say, the dim sum is good except for the Cantonese Yee Mee which is salty to our liking. Too little egg for the gravy which is full of starch. Not recommended at all. Must commend on the steamed dim sum which they bring out one by one to our liking. This is how a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant serves when we have dim sum for meal. Not bringing out everything at one go! Price wise- averaging between RM8 - 9.50 per basket (with prawns). Their spicy and spur dumpling is very unique and we liked it very much as the closure for our brunch here. Prawns is fresh despite being frozen. Service is okay as only 2 staff manning the floor on a Tuesday late morning. Parking is plenty. Will be back again for sure Total bill came to RM 81.30 for 1 noodle at RM 12.90 7 basket of dim sum. 1 teapot of Chinese tea for 2pax.

Came here based on a friend’s recommendation, and I don’t regret it at all! Visited on New Year’s night, and there were only two tables occupied. The first thing I noticed was how clean and neat the restaurant was, and the staff were nice. They have a variety of dim sum, and the prices are really affordable. Our food arrived quickly, probably because it wasn’t very busy. Everything tasted great! The portions weren’t huge, but each dim sum was big and filling. We ordered 7 plates, including cheong fun, plus a nasi goreng. It was more than enough for two people. Even the drinks were good, it’s not too sweet. I’ll definitely come back because the food is so GOOD and worth the price. Our total was just RM80+, which is super reasonable. I highly recommend this place over mall dim sum spots if you want to enjoy a lot of dim sum without spending too much. Also, i love that they have Halal Jakim here! Wishing this restaurant continued success!
